Coating is more than just applying paint. Every layer must be precise to protect components, remain cost-effective, and often achieve the desired appearance. In practice, there are numerous challenges.
The type of coating used – wet paint or powder coating – influences the entire process. Wet paints change their layer thickness during drying. What initially looks perfect can later become too thin or too thick, affecting both protection and appearance. Powder coatings, on the other hand, must be applied evenly before curing. Irregularities remain after hardening and are difficult to correct.
Especially in the automotive or aerospace industries, tolerances are extremely low. Every component must have exactly the same coating thickness, otherwise the risk of scrap, rework, and additional costs looms.
